Hayes Theatre Co

2014

Hayes Theatre Co (HTC) is named after Australian musical theatre legend, Nancye Hayes OAM. HTC honours the vast history of Australian Musical Theatre and its practitioners.

As an iconic venue in Greenknowe Avenue, Potts Point, HTC focuses on providing a permanent home for small-scale musical theatre and cabaret. By providing venue space to newly mounted productions, Hayes Theatre Co is a presenting partner together with independent producers and artists, as well as providing a permanent location in Sydney for New Musicals Australia and the Sydney Cabaret. This intimate venue gives audiences the opportunity to enjoy an up-close-and-personal music theatre experience.

Like most cultural enterprises, HTC requires much support from a broad sponsorship base in order to continue the important work that it does.

Peter Campbell Design was approached to undertake the design and production of a large, variable Sponsor Board to acknowledge the individuals and organisations that provide this support.

The board is the focal point of the foyer as it dominates the entry staircase below a large chandalier. The parameters of the job were inevitably predictable; a 5.6m2 space, approximately 500 sponsor names at any one time, the need to be able to change these on a regular basis, a short timeframe and a very modest budget.

PCD proposed a lightweight, folded aluminium structure with digitally printed and wrapped graphics which can be changed quickly and economically.

The dynamic form of the board represents the nature of HTC productions, while type sizes correlate with the level of sponsorship. PCD frequently redesigns the board in a pro bono sponsorship arrangement.
